Often, one of the biggest culprits in worsening allergies is the air quality in your home. Here are some ways to improve the air quality in your home and reduce allergens.

Keep your home clean

The most common allergens include dust mites, mold spores, pollen, and animal dander. We can remove most of them by cleaning the apartment regularly. Frequent vacuuming and airing out the house can significantly reduce the number of allergens in the house. If possible, replace carpets with wooden floors or tiles - the risk of allergens accumulating in them is much lower (they are also easier to clean). Another way is to change bedding regularly and wash it in hot water. When cleaning, try to use mild chemicals so as not to inhale harmful substances. If you have pets, try to have them sleep in their own beds, not in your bed. Hair and dead skin left on your bedding can worsen allergic reactions.

Change air filters regularly

The air filter should be checked and replaced regularly. This will not only improve the air quality in your home, but will also make it easier to fall asleep. The filter stops small dust and dirt that we failed to vacuum. This makes it a great addition to regular cleaning. However, it is worth remembering to replace the filters - if the filter is worn and very dirty, it will no longer fulfill its function. Air quality in homes and allergies - infographic

Vacuum the carpets

Thorough vacuuming and cleaning of carpets can significantly reduce the number of allergens – in addition to dust, all the dirt brought in from outside, both by people and pets, accumulates on them. In addition to carpets, curtains are a common habitat for allergens – make sure to wash and replace them regularly, and if possible, replace curtains with blinds.

Use air purifiers

To keep the air in your home fresh and clean, you should consider buying a high-quality air purifier. Make sure it has a HEPA filter – a high-efficiency particulate air filter. HEPA filters trap dust, mold, pet dander, and dust mites and remove them from the air before they build up. Air quality can have a huge impact on your quality of life. While there are many causes of allergies, the pollutants you encounter in your home every day can make them worse. If you want to reduce allergic reactions and live a healthier life, keep your home clean and properly filtered. Not sure which filter is right for you? Contact us!
