HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are technologically advanced air filters capable of retaining at least 99.97% of particles of 0.3 micrometers. Used in places requiring the highest air purity, such as hospitals, laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, paint shops, electronics and HVAC systems.

HEPA filters use three effective filtration mechanisms:

• Impactation: Stops larger particles such as dust and pollen that hit the filter fibers.
• Interception: Smaller particles adhere to the fibers as air flows.
• Diffusion: ultrafine particles (e.g. viruses, bacteria) move chaotically and become trapped in the fibers.

HEPA Filter Classification

According to the EN 1822:2019 standard , HEPA filters are divided into efficiency classes:

• E10 – ≥ 85%
• E11 – ≥ 95%
• E12 – ≥ 99.5%
• H13 – ≥ 99.95% (most commonly used)
• H14 – ≥ 99.995% (most commonly used)

For extreme conditions, ULPA filters are used with an efficiency of up to 99.999995% .

How to care for HEPA filters?

• Regular replacement according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Do not wash with water - moisture may damage the filter structure.
• Monitor airflow resistance – too much resistance is a sign that the filter is clogged.
• Using pre-filters (e.g. G4, F7) extends the life of the HEPA filter.
